I am awestruck by the beauty of these sling chairs. The chairs are handcrafted with over-dyed repurposed rugs. The custom designed chairs from Still + Co. for Sit and Read in Brooklyn, are hemmed and hand-stitched onto welded wrought iron frames.

5 DIY Rugs

Have you ever seen a tag on a carpet that said it contained “unknown man-made fibers?” Are you scared of the “unknown?” If it’s hanging off a carpet or rug, maybe you should be. “Unknown” carpet or rug fibers are generally made from a cocktail of synthetic fibers such as nylon, acrylic, polyester, or polypropylene. These fibers may be treated with fire retardants, anti-static treatments, fungicides, dye and adhesives made of VOC's. Carpets are backed with polyurethane, synthetic latex, or PVC. Take a whiff. You can even smell the chemical odors of new carpets and rugs wafting up from the floor when you bring one home.

If you are one of those people who think that ropes are just for jumping, think again. Rope, sale which is called "line" when used on boats, is essential to every sailor. Ropes are also a versatile DIY material on and off a boat. I just came back from vacation and spent a considerable amount of time on a boat. My husband is a boater, and when he has some free time he enjoys practicing tying nautical knots. If you’ve ever spent any time around boats, you know that strong knots can make or break a day out on the water.
